BRAVO 2025-26 School Year Events
Sunday, October 5, 2025: Blue Ridge Bird Observatory
We got rained out in September, so we’ve rescheduled. The new date for the trip to the Blue Ridge Bird Observatory Bird Banding Station in Wolf Laurel is Sunday, October 5. We’ll join the bird banding crew and learn more about the migrant songbirds and raptors that pass through the Southern Appalachians. With a bit of patience and luck, we should be able to handle wild birds, and then set them free. We meet at 10:30 for a short hike to the bird banding station. Our program will run from 11-1, and then we’ll head back down the mountain.
RSVP to jay@blueridgebravo.org or 828-335-1136 by October 1 to claim your spot.
Saturday, October 18, 2025: White Cane Awareness Walk at Pack Square Plaza
BRAVO will be at the White Cane Awareness Walk at Pack Square in Asheville on Saturday, October 18, from 1-3 pm.
The White Cane Awareness Walk is a free event, open to all, designed to increase public knowledge about white canes, their use, and the safety laws surrounding them. A number of community partners will be there, including BRAVO.
This event will be a chance to connect with others in the blindness community, and to celebrate the right of blind people to move freely and independently with a cane or guide dog. We will conduct a group walk around Pack Square, and there will be a chance for our sighted friends to take a walk with a borrowed cane (with or without blindfolds).
You can find more information about White Cane Awareness Day at the National Federation for the Blind website, or read Governor Stein's Proclamation of White Cane Safety Day in North Carolina here.
You do not need to register to attend this event. Come one, come all!
Saturday, November 8, 2025: Ziplining at the Asheville Adventure Center
We're heading back to the Asheville Adventure Center -- the same place we've zipped for years. (It's just too fun to stop!) Campers can hit the KidZip course or the adult ziplines, depending on their size and taste for adventure. We zip from 12-2 pm. Cost: Free.
RSVP to jay@blueridgebravo.org or 828-335-1136 by November 1 to claim your spot.
Thursday, January 22, 2026: Snow Tubing!
We're heading back to the Zip n Slip in Mars Hill on Thursday, January 22, from 1-3 pm (weather permitting: back up date is 1/29/26). We zip on a school day so we can get the whole mountain to ourselves -- let me know if you need a letter to get your absence excused! Cost: Free.
RSVP to jay@blueridgebravo.org or 828-335-1136 by January 15 to claim your spot.
March 2026: Ellaberry Llama Farm!
We don’t have final details on this one yet, but it’s in the works. Stay tuned!
Saturday, April 18, 2026: Outdoor Rock Climbing with Waypoint Adventure
This will be BRAVO's second outdoor rock-climbing adventure, led by Waypoint's experienced climbing staff. Details to follow, but save the date, and let me know if you think you'd like to join. Slots will be limited.
